CHINESE MEDICINE

What Is Chinese Medicine?
Traditional Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is the world’s oldest continuously practiced system of healing, with over 3,000 years of clinically proven effectiveness in treating a wide range of physical and emotional ailments. However, unlike western medicine, one of its unique features is that it emphasizes the promotion of health and not just the elimination of disease.

Qi and Yin and Yang

Chinese medicine is based upon two fundamental concepts: Qi (pronounced “chee” and the harmonious balance of the yin and yang. Qi represents the vital energy or life force that animates all living things, while yin and yang are terms that describe the two opposite and interdependent aspects of being. Qi circulates throughout your body via the circulatory system and along pathways called meridians that act as a distribution network. If there is either an excess or a deficiency of Qi causing an interruption in its normal flow, a disharmony between Yin and Yang will develop, and the resulting imbalance will often lead to illness.
Both acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine are extremely effective in their ability to restore optimum health by correcting and maintaining the equilibrium of all body systems.
